Milan (Ohio)

Milan (English pronunciation maɪlən ) is a village located in the counties of Erie and Huron in the U.S. state of Ohio. In the census of 2010, the municipality had 1,367 inhabitants. Milan is located on the south bank of the Huron River.

In 1839 a canal to Lake Erie was built, which allowed Milan direct trade relations with the industrial centers located at Lake Erie. The former city was famous for its harbor as well as its shipyards for the construction of schooners for the traffic on Lake Erie. After the construction of a rail network, the channel lost its importance and Milan's population decreased dramatically.

Milan's most famous residents was the inventor Thomas Edison. His birthplace and childhood home is an attraction for visitors Milan.
