Miljan Miljanić

Miljan Miljanić ( born May 4, 1930 in Bitola, Kingdom of Yugoslavia, † January 13, 2012 in Belgrade ) was a Yugoslavian football coach and functionary.

Career as a coach

Miljan Miljanić was born in 1930 in Bitola; his family was originally from Nikšić. During his varied coaching career he was a three time coach of the Yugoslav national team and led them to the 1974 World Cup, where they retired in the second final round, and at the 1982 World Cup, where you already retired in the first final round. The qualification for the European Championships in Italy in 1980 was narrowly missed. Especially with success was his career in club football, where in eight years, he was able to celebrate seven titles with Red Star Belgrade. After the 1974 World Cup, he tried successfully abroad as coach of Real Madrid. In the first season, he led the team to the Double, and in the following season to defend their title in the championship. The same he tried after the 1982 World Cup, when he accepted the coaching job at Valencia CF. However, this time it was granted not a success and he ended his coaching career.

As a functionary Miljanić was the first president of the Yugoslav Football Association and, following his split from 1992 until March 2001, the President of the Serbian Football Association. On January 13, 2012 Miljan Miljanić died after a long battle with cancer
