Milka Planinc

Milka Planinc (Cyrillic Милка Планинц; born November 21, 1924 in Drniš, Yugoslavia, now Croatia; † October 7, 2010 in Zagreb) was a Yugoslav politician ( Prime Minister 1982-1986).

Life

Milka Planinc joined after the German occupation of the country in 1941 the partisans, 1944, she joined the Communist Party of Yugoslavia in, the predecessor of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia ( LCY ). After the war, she attended the Higher School of Administration in Zagreb. From 1959 it belonged to the Central Committee of the League of Communists of Croatia (part of the federally organized LCY ), from 1963 to 1965 she was Minister of Education of the Socialist Republic of Croatia.

As the successor of the deposed because of the support of the Croatian Spring Savka Dabčević - Kucar it was on December 13, 1971 party leader of the League of Communists of Croatia.

On May 15, 1982, she became the first woman chairman of the Federal Executive Council (ie prime minister or head of government ) of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. This office was always transferred to four years.

Stations of trips abroad during her tenure as Prime Minister were, among others, the United Kingdom, Bulgaria, France, United States, Soviet Union, East Germany and Austria. With the German Chancellor Helmut Kohl met at the Yugoslavia 's visit in June 1985.
