Milo Cipra

Milo Cipra ( born October 13, 1906 in Vareš; † 9 July 1985 in Zagreb) was a Yugoslavian composer and university teacher.

Life

Cipra first studied philosophy and German at the University of Zagreb, before he joined the Music Academy in Zagreb in the composition class of Blagoje Bersa. After graduating in 1933, he worked as a secondary school teacher and from 1941 until retirement in 1977 as a lecturer at the Academy of Music in Zagreb ( dean 1961-1971 ).

Work

The compositions Cipras were initially under the influence of neo-classicism and attacked elements of the folk music of his homeland on. From the late 1950s he turned to a modified twelve-tone technique. His oeuvre comprises orchestral works ( including 2 symphonies ), chamber music ( 5 string ), and vocal works.
