Milton, Easter Ross

Milton ( gäl. Baile Mhuilinn Anndra ) until the 1970s, known as Milntown of Tarbat, is a small village in Easter Ross between Kildary and Barbara Ville on Scotland's northeast coast.

History

Milton was a center for oatmeal and later flax fiber production, which was supplied by many surrounding farms during the heyday of the Clan Ross. Its market cross dates from the late 18th century. The mill was operated by a tributary of the Balnagown.

Today, Milton has a social housing neighborhood in the west and north of the original village that was built during the late 1970s on former farmland.

The original village, now a nature reserve, offers classic Scottish Vernacular architecture, and a short distance away is Tarbat Estate, including Major - General Lord MacLeod Georgian Tarbat House, dating to 1778, a contemporary ruin. The views from the top floor of the estate allowed for spectacular views of the Cromarty Firth.
