Minabe (Wakayama)
Minabe (Japaneseみなべ 町, -chō ) is a municipality in the district of Hidaka in the Japanese prefecture of Wakayama.
History
On 1 October 2004 the congregation joined Minabe (南部 町, -chō ) and the village Minabegawa (南部 川村, -mura ) to the new community Minabe (みなべ 町, -chō ) together.
Nanko Ume -
The city is famous for the so-called Nanko - ume (南 高 梅), a special type of umeboshi. The Nanko - ume was invented by a teacher of Minabe High School ( Minabe Koko ). The name Nanko - ume consists of the first kanji of Minabe (南, nan ) and high school (高, kō ), as well as the word for plum (梅, ume ) together.
Attractions
There are two Shinto shrines, whose cry celebrations take place both in late August / early September.
