Minecart

As Hunt or dog in the miners' language an open, box-shaped tram is called.

History

The Hunt developed in the 16th century from the need to increase the capacity. To date, was funded with trays, baskets or carts run.

A distinction in the history of Huntes between different versions:

  • The track nail or German Hunt ( 16th century to the mid 19th century ) consisted of a ( iron-bound ) wooden box with about 150 liters. He had different sized wheels, which ran to Bohlen. The track led nail the Hunt in the gap between the two planks.
  • The Hungarian Hunt ( from 1779 to the mid-19th century ) resembled largely a German Hunt without track nail. The wheels ran on wooden planks or timbers, in the latter case the car body floor is deeper than the tread and in the Hunt leads between the timbers. The rear axle is almost centrally mounted so that the Huntstößer can direct the Hunt with very little effort.
  • The Mansfeld Aspirant Hunt is optimized to promote the degradation of copper slate. It was a low Box, which was pulled by a belt attached to a loop of the mountain boys. This work was called routes. A Hunt run is not needed because the sole is made in copper mining from the Horn Bank, which has a solid and smooth surface.

All these Hunte had initially wooden disc wheels that ran on wooden (later reinforced iron ) angle rails. The longer shelf life because, and because they were much heavier and more expensive than the wooden, cast iron wheels were later used. The Hunt will become later in the Hunt as so-called control or track known nail through the side rails of the back splash or a truncated iron nail ( clavus Magnus Ferreus obtusus ) out.

The old Hunt promotion had the advantage of being simply the direction of the Huntes could no complicated switches and crossings to be changed by muscle power by pressing on the Hunt. This type was called also German dog linkage. It was also possible to promote on uneven or inclined tunnels and without tracks.

From England came during the 19th century, the wheel flange to Germany. For the English rod, it was necessary that according to straight and level track was laid on which to run the car. Jump the car from the track, he does not continue. Due to the lower rolling resistance but the capacity could be increased, which is why the English tram (1842-1915) prevailed along with the excavation aligned just studs and tracks. The development of the English trolley is the trough car used to this day.

Later it developed from the principle of rail Huntes the entire railway system.

Word origin

The origin of the terms " Hunt" or " dog " is not clear.

After the Agricola Hunte used in the Middle Ages to have caused from wood when pushing through the Huntstößer on the track battens ( wooden rails ) particularly in curves a barking noise.

Adelung mentioned the term in connection with the old measure dog, which already appears in the Lower Saxon charters of the 13th century. Since were used before the introduction of Huntes baskets, it is quite obvious that the name goes back to this quantitative measure, which corresponds to an amount of 100 baskets. Adelung also refers, in this context, some derived terms such as dog runners, dog tug and dog chain, but takes on no relation to the verb heunzen, which he equates pull in meaning with and in other mining terminology, such as Heinz art mentioned.

Another explanation version of the origin of the word " Hunt" is the derivative of the Slovak word " hyntow " ( = car). This explanation, however, in view of the proverbial wealth of Germanisms in the Slovak language and in particular the fact that just technical terms of Slovakian migrant workers have been brought ( in the Kuk monarchy ) in the home, highly doubtful. Therefore, rather the German word is to be regarded as the original and " hyntow " very likely a Germanism.

Moreover, in the mining and mechanical engineering animal names are not rare as labels, such as "bear" for " counterweight ", " cat " or " trolley " for small car with Pulley, " dachshund " for the small wooden cars in Westphalia. The also common for a trolley term " dog " might just have this origin and " Hunt" would be a variation thereof.

The usual medieval use of draft animals in mines and the term " dog " have meant that in some literary renditions of the use of domestic dogs is the question. This is, however, a mistake.

Phrase

The phrase " go before the Hunte / dogs" is derived from the mine cars: When in ancient times a miner had worked badly, he had to draw the penalty Hunte; so was everyone whom the earthly happiness had left, " before the Hunte ".

Areas of application

Mining

In the mining industry (s) of Hunt serves the promotion of underground mining material from the place of decomposition via the underground rail system for hoisting cage and uphole. In the 19th century the Ruhr Hunt also served to promote the shaft. The Hunt is struck at the rope and pulled up in the tonnlägigen bay.

Steel production

Even on a blast furnace, the open tram Hunt are: a cable-drawn cart on the inclined ramp to the loading of a blast furnace with ores and aggregates.

Logistics General

Trolley for loads, furniture, piano transportation, etc. are also referred to as " Hunte ". It draws on the aforementioned Bergmann language. The trolley can be simple boards with wheels or be operated under power. In supermarkets and warehouses often called electric Hunte or dog (also " ants " ) are used that have similar forklift fork for transporting pallets, but do not have a driver's cab. So the modern Huntstößer runs after behind the Hunt, but no longer have to push, but only use a control lever.
