Mingun Bell

The Mingun Bell in Mingun village north of Mandalay in Myanmar is the largest intact bell in the world. It is 3.70 m high, has a diameter at the base of 5 m and weighs about 87 tons. Bigger, but not to bring the blades due to damage is only the Tsar Bell in the Moscow Kremlin.

King Bodawpaya had the bell cast in 1808 for his under construction Mingun Pagoda. The Glockengießer he had finished when kill to prevent this again could produce such a masterpiece.

In the earthquake of 1838, the bell house collapsed ( Tazaung ) that the bell itself remained undamaged and later received a new " Tazaung " with elaborate wood carvings.
