Minister for Family and Consumer Affairs of Denmark

The Ministry of Family and Consumer Affairs ( Danish Ministeriet for family -og Forbrugeranliggender ) was a Danish Ministry. It was created in August 2004 and already released three years later. The Ministry was responsible for family policy, consumer protection and food inspection.

The work of the ministry concerned mainly the areas of consumer protection, food safety, children, family and youth development, eg in the areas of youth services, child custody, adoption, marriage and divorce law.

Structure

The Ministry were under three authorities:

  • Family Authority ( Familiestyrelsen ) - currently (2012 ) a part of the appeal authority ( Ankestyrelsen ) in the social and Integration Ministry
  • Authority for Consumer Protection ( Forbrugerstyrelsen ) - currently a part of the Competition and Consumer Protection Authority ( Konkurrence -og Forbrugerstyrelsen ) in the industrial and Growth Ministry
  • Food Safety Authority ( Fødevarestyrelsen ) - currently located in the Ministry of Food

The Ministry was disbanded after the 2007 General Election. The decisive factor was a series of scandals involving an ineffective food control. A report of the Court did not spare criticism of the role of the ministry, which led to the resignation of Lars Barfoed.
