Mintlaw

Mintlaw (literally a smooth, flat place ) is a small town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland located on the A952 and is geographically a transport hub. The UK Census 2001 showed a population of 2647 people.

As the largest settlement. Within eleven miles in any direction and with its size, it offers a number of grocery stores, a butcher, a pharmacy and a gas station and a police station, a library, a dentist and a medical center The city is known for its fish-and - chips shop Zanres who has won the British " Fish and Chip Shop of the Year " contest as fast food, but it is now a restaurant. There are three pubs, two, Garret and Pitfour (also a bed and breakfast ) situated in the center, Shak is located behind Zanres. The Country Park Inn is a bed and breakfast with a pub, a games room, Harry Hippos, and a restaurant.

The Happy Plant Centre is a large garden center, which is known in the area, was recently expanded and now has a small cafe. It is next to a football field.

The nearby Aden Country Park is open to the public and offers a dilapidated mansion, an agricultural museum and walking paths in the woods and an adventure park. Aden Park is accessible via the Station Road or Netheraden Road.

Mintlaw is also the home of Aberdeenshire Heritage, the Aberdeenshire Council Museum Service, and is located in a purpose built museum shop, which houses the largest collection of the county, and a laboratory for preservation and a center for teaching aids. The service provides schools also traveling exhibitions and operates eleven museums in the county, including the Museum of Agriculture Heritage Park in Aden.

History

The surrounding area is rich in prehistoric and historic features. Just south of Mintlaw are a number of prehistoric monuments including Catto Long Barrow, Silver Cairn and many tumuli. In the same environment the Laeca burn- watershed of the base of the historic battles was between the invading Danes and the ansässigenPikten.

The Victorian era saw the introduction of the web, the Maud - Peterhead line was built in the 1860s. Mintlaw was a scheduled stop on this line. The station was built just to the west of the village, perhaps because it was more convenient for the Clan Fergusson Pitfour and the Russell family of Aden. Affluent homes were built on Station Road for businesses and professionals. The post office was moved closer to the railroad and became a business center. The Mintlaw Station was the postal address for this whole area for many years. The Crown Post Office was merged with the closure of the railway in the 1960s with Peterhead, and the post office of the place moved back to South Street. Also telephone numbers were also Mintlaw Station until the early 1970s, when the word Station was dropped.

Mintlaw has two primary schools, Mintlaw Primary School and Pitfour Primary School.

There is a large comprehensive school, Mintlaw Academy, whose catchment area is the place and the surrounding area. Mintlaw Academy is at Station Road.
