Minyas (mythology)

In Greek mythology Minyas (Greek Μινύας ) was the founder of the ancient city of Orchomenus in Boeotia, and progenitor of the Minyae.

Its confusing genealogy calls him sometimes as a grandson of Zeus, sometimes as a grandson or son of Poseidon. Also, he is either the son or father or brother of Orchomenus. Homer did not know him, but designated Orchomenus as the seat of the king Amphion as minyisch. He had a daughter Persephone, but is over- delivers as Clymene, With Iolcus in Thessaly Minyas is connected via the Argonauts. He was there as an ancestor of the minyischen Argonauts.

Pausanias mentions in his description of Orchomenus grave and treasure house of Minyas that one recognizes in the Mycenaean grave dome of Orchomenus.
