Miraflores Palace

The Miraflores Palace ( Palacio de Miraflores ) in Caracas is the official residence of the President of Venezuela. It is located in downtown Caracas just a few meters from the Palacio Federal Legislative away.

History

Mid-year 1884, the construction in the administration of President Joaquín Crespo ( 1884-1886 ) was initiated under the direction of Italian architect Giussepe Orsi de Mombello, but not completed until after his death in 1889. One of the features of neoclassical architecture are the supporting reinforced with metal walls that were built to the horizontal bracing and serve to protect against possible earthquakes. Miraflores was one of the first earthquake-proof buildings in Venezuela.

The structure of the building consists of six parts, but they are arranged in a ring around the central courtyard with arcades. The building complex is in turn occupied by gardens, statues and a marble fountain. The shape of the windows shall terminate arches, parapets, pilasters and decorative reliefs are decorated in the style of a French neo -baroque palace, despite the Italian side, which is the courtyard garden with circumferential traverses.

The interior led from the Catalan architect Juan Bautista Sales, the decoration of the palace comes from the Spanish painter Julián Oñate y Juárez ( 1840-1899 ).
