Miramar Peninsula

The Miramar Peninsula is a peninsula on the southeastern end of the city of Wellington in New Zealand. On it lie the suburbs of Miramar, Maupuia, Seatoun, Strathmore and The Heights.

An isthmus connecting the peninsula with the rest of Wellington. On it is also the Wellington airport. The peninsula separates the Wellington Harbour belonging to Evans Bay in the north of the Lyall Bay and Cook Strait in the south.

To the east of the peninsula lies the mouth of Wellington Harbour. That because of numerous shipwrecks infamous reef Barrett Reef lies off the coast of the peninsula.

The peninsula was originally named by European settlers Watt's Peninsula. 1872 named the first settler in the area, James Coutts Crawford to Miramar. The name of the Māori of the peninsula is Whataitai.

In Miramar, among other things, the film effect company Weta Workshop, Weta Digital, and post production company Park Road Post Production are headquartered
