Miriam

Miriam (Hebrew מִרְיָם; Arab مریم یاغی ) was according to tradition the Old Testament, the sister of Moses and Aaron and a prophetess.

The biblical tradition

Miriam was after Num 26,59 EU, the daughter of Amram and Jochebed of the, of the tribe of Levi. It is traditionally identified with the unnamed older sister of Moses, who was watching from a hiding place, as Moses in the reed basket was found by the daughter of Pharaoh, and who suggested her mother as a nurse (Ex 2:1-10 EU).

In the exodus from Egypt Miriam led after the crossing of the Red Sea to the joy of dancing and the singing of the women, although it is called a prophetess (Ex 15:20-21 EU).

During the next desert hike Mirjam presented with Aaron against her brother Moses in the dispute over whose sole claim to leadership. It was then punished by God with leprosy, who disappeared only to the prayer of Moses to go back. After a seven-day period of ritual impurity outside the camp Miriam was resumed ( Num 12.1 to 15 EU). After 20.1 EU Num Miriam died and was buried there in Kadesh.

Tradition in the Koran

The shape of Miriam (Arabic: مريم, Maryam ) is in the Koran presented without consideration of the narrative and tradition-historical differences between the Old and New Testament traditions as the daughter of Amram ( " Imran " sura 3.35), but a foster-father by the name of " Zacharias " receives and as mother of Jesus is true (Sura 3.45). Similarly, this relationship is also manufactured in Sura 19, which is titled " Maryam ". There, the mother of Jesus is also the Aaron ( 19.28 to 34 ) sister.
