Miron Białoszewski

Miron Bialoszewski (* June 30, 1922 in Warsaw, † June 17, 1983 ) was a Polish poet.

Life and work

Bialoszewski graduated from high school during the German occupation in the Second World War and afterwards studied at the University of secret underground Polish philology. He took part in the Warsaw Uprising in 1944 and after the crackdown, he was deported to forced labor in Germany. On the transport to Germany, he escaped and returned to Poland. After the war he finished his studies and worked alongside their studies as a postal worker. After graduating, he began working as a journalist for the Warsaw newspapers. He also wrote for children's and youth magazines in which he published his first poems and songs. His literary debut was in 1955 in the newspaper literary life, and in 1956 he published his first volume of poetry. Many of his poems were set to music. One of the most famous is Karuzela z madonnami. Music by Zygmunt Konieczny in the 1960s, this song was one of the most famous songs by Ewa Demarczyk, the legendary chanteuse Poland.

2012 appeared in the Leipzig publishing Reinecke & Voss unwanted entitled We starfish an anthology of his poems, translated by Dagmara Kraus.
