Miroslav Wiecek

Miroslav Wiecek (* November 4, 1931 in Ostrava, † 12 July 1997) was a Czech football player. In 325 first division matches, he scored 174 goals.

Playing career

Miroslav Wiecek played since his youth for Banik Ostrava, in the 1947/48 season, the striker returned to his first stakes in the Erstligamannschaft of the association. He quickly developed into a reliable scorer, with 20 goals in 1952 Wiecek was top scorer in the league. On October 4, 1953 Wiecek debuted in the dress of the Czechoslovak national team, which defeated that day Hungary with 1:5. It should be Wieceks single international match.

In 1956 he was again top scorer with 15 goals. He wanted to switch to Slavia Prague, but the transfer was prevented by communist officials. Twice more, in 1958 and 1959, Wiecek secured the top scorer. When he moved to local rivals VŽKG Vitkovice 1964, Wiecek had scored 174 goals for Banik Ostrava in 325 first division matches and was the most successful strikers in the postwar period.

His career was Wiecek 1968 finish to 1970 as player-coach at the club unterklassigen Tatra Kopřivnice.

Coaching career

From 1970 to 1973 Miroslav Wiecek coached the B team of Banik Ostrava in the 3rd league. Then he was coach at NHKG Ostrava in the second league, but the team got off and was in the following year in fourth place in Group B of the third league. In the 1975/76 season he was an assistant coach at TJ TŽ Třinec from 1976 to 1982, he coached VOKD Poruba, first in the third, thanks to a reorganization of 1981/82 in the second division. From 1982 to 1983 Wiecek was coach of North Yemen national football team.
