Misha Segal

Misha Segal ( born 1943 in Haifa, British Mandate of Palestine, now Israel) is an Israeli composer.

Life

Misha Segal was born the son of a Russian musician and a Viennese woman in Haifa in 1943. Both were pronounced music fans. The father was interested in jazz, including Louis Armstrong, while the mother Viennese classicism, such as Johann Strauss. He grew up in Tel Aviv and started despite his love for music only with military service to learn the piano. He then studied film and philosophy, and music under the composer Paul Ben -Haim and Noam Sheriff at the University of Tel Aviv. This was followed by an internship at the German composer Dieter Schöhnbach, along with studies in composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he graduated at the Berklee College of Music.

Back in Israel Segal came out as the composer for rock, pop and jazz. So scattered pieces were played by him of the Israeli Philharmonic and the Israeli Chamber Ensemble. He then moved to New York City, where he was able to work for Columbia Records and RCA Records with musicians such as Luther Vandross, Maynard Ferguson, Phyllis Hyman and Nancy Wilson. When he signed a new contract with Motown, he moved to Los Angeles, where he also composed film music for the first time. So he wrote the music for such films as The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking and The Phantom of the Opera.
