Mislinja (settlement)

Mislinja ( German: Mißling ) is a former Styrian municipality that is now attributed to the region Carinthian in Slovenia.

Location and population

In the overall community consisting of 11 villages 4,777 people live. The main town Mislinja alone has 1,883 inhabitants. Mislinja Mislinja is in the upper valley at the junction of Pohorje and the Karawanken between the municipalities of Velenje and Slovenj Gradec. It is also the southernmost municipality of the Carinthian region.

History

1404 the village was first mentioned. Thanks to the hammer works the boom began. 1724 were the first plants already in operation. Middle of the 19th century, this industry lost more and more important. Around the 1900, work began on the forestry sector. A cardboard factory, a workshop barrels, some saw mills and a power plant for self consumption incurred. It has also built a 9.4 km - long narrow gauge railway to Mislinjski jarek At that time she was the only such forest railway in Central Europe. It was in operation until 1956.

In Mislinja is one of the three most modern Slovenian ski centers.
