Mista'arvim

Mista'aravim (Hebrew מסתערבים, literally Arabized ) is a name for covert military and police special forces in Israel. Mista'aravim capable devices operate disguised as Arabs, especially in the fight against terrorism.

The earliest form of a Mista'aravim unit was the Hashomer. This defense organization of the Jews in Palestine, which lasted until 1920, was the Bedouin fighters in the region as a model. The Schomrim contributed equally Bedouin clothes and headgear and spoke Arabic.

Today the Mista'aravim are highly specialized units whose actions are subject to secrecy. Special Operations Forces in Mista'aravim units subject to an intense undercover training. Learning content of the workouts are not only covering techniques, but also intensive study of local Arab culture, Arabic language and the Islamic religion and the Koran.

Units

  • Jechidat Duvdevan - Military special unit for combating terrorism. Original application were Judea and Samaria ( West Bank)
  • Jechidat Shimshon - was the sister unit of Duvdevan and operated mainly in the Gaza Strip. Dissolved in 1994.
  • JAMAS - Concealed operating anti-terrorist unit of the Border Guard.
  • Lahav 433 - Does the Mista'arvim a subunit which operates primarily in Meschulasch.
