The Mitre Peak is a 6010 m high mountain in the central Karakoram in Pakistan. It lies on the south side of the Baltorogletschers directly at Concordia Square, the place where the future of the South Upper Baltoro Glacier joins the coming from the northern K2 Godwin Austen Glacier to the Baltoro glacier. The Mitre Peak opposite the mountains of the Gasherbrum group, which consists among other things of three eight-thousanders.

Despite its - compared to its neighbors - relatively low height of Mitre Peak as seen from the Place de la Concorde from a " majestic " shape that resembles a miter (English Mitre ).

Climbing history

About the first ascent of Mitre Peak, there are different information. Many ascent experiments were carried out without permission. However, the solo ascent by the French Ivano Ghirardini in June 1980 is considered safe.
