Mitre Square

Mitre Square is a small, approximately 500 square feet of space in the City of London.

Connected it is in the southwest with Mitre Street, in the north- west with Creechurch Street and the North East on the St James 's Passage (formerly Church Passage) with Duke 's Place. Until the dissolution of the English monasteries in the 16th century was located at the same place the Holy Trinity Priory, Aldgate.

At the southern corner of the square (now called " Ripper 's Corner ") was found the body of Catharine Eddowes on September 30, 1888 at 01.44 clock, the fourth victim of Jack the Ripper murders attributed. Mitre Square is the only scene of the Ripper murders, which is outside of the Municipality of Tower Hamlets. Only 44 minutes before the body of the third Ripper victim Elizabeth Stride was found in about one kilometer away Berner Street.
