Mitsubishi A7M

The Mitsubishi A7M Reppu ( Hurricane ) was a Japanese carrier fighter which was planned during the Second World War as a successor to the Mitsubishi A6M and did not come to series production.

The first flight of an unmanned prototype took place on 6 May 1944. Was the first of seven planned testbed A7M2 its maiden flight on 13 October 1944, and reached 630 km / h

The Allied air raids eventually prevented the start of production, so that there remained only eight copies. Allied code name: Sam.

Variants

  • A7M1: First version, powered by a Nakajima Homare 22 engine with 1491 kW ( 2000 hp). 3 piece built.
  • A7M2: Improved version, powered by a Mitsubishi Ha -43 engine with 1640 kW ( 2200PS ). 5 prototypes built.
  • A7M3: Land-based version. Has not been built.
  • A7M3 - J: Land-based version. Has not been built.
