Mittagstal

The Mezdì ( Ladin Val de Mesdì, Italian Val Mezdì ) is a locally up to 45 ° steep scree - Kar in the north of the Sella massif in South Tyrol (Italy). It is considered by experienced mountain walkers and skiers as a special challenge.

Location, geography and landscape

The Mezdì starts at the Boèhütte ( 2,873 m) below the Piz Boe, the highest with 3,152 m elevation of the Sella group. Between the high walls of the Summit Zwischenkofel, Torre Berger, Sass de Mesdì, Bamberg lace, Dent de Mesdì and Pisciadùturm in the west and Neuner, Zehner, Boe - Seekofel, Pizkofel, Great and Little Mesdì Tower in the east, it falls very sharply to his first 3 km to more than 1,000 m from the height of 1,800 m. The flanked by the high walls Kar in the upper section places a gorge-like character, in other places it widens into larger scree, on which are currently wide snowfields in the early summer.

The light coming from Pisciadù " Val de Bosli " ​​valley opens on the left in the lower part of the Mittagstals.

The last section to its end in Kolfuschg ( about 1 km ) passes through coniferous forest and falls after a recent steep step in the meadow land of Val Badia to 1,640 m.

By Mezdì lunch Bach ( Ladin rue de Mesdì ), which is dry in summer in the upper section flows. In the rainy season it forms below the Mesdì towers a waterfall. He joins in the lower section with the Pisciadù Bach ( rue de Pisciadù ) and flows at Kolfuschg in the Gader.

Sports

Starting point for descents and ski descents through the Mezdì is the Boèhütte that can be reached after about 1 hour of easy walking from Sass Pordoi (fast cable car from Pordoijoch ).

The descent is in the boarding area a fixed rope along a gully.

The ski slope is unguarded and no indications and recommended by the local tourist association for experienced skiers with very good snow conditions, accompanied by a mountain guide.

In individual cases has been undertaken by the Mezdì of extreme athletes and mountain biking.

Film

In addition to the mountains around Cortina d' Ampezzo were the rock towers above the Mezdì filming location for the movie Cliffhanger - Only the strong survive with Sylvester Stallone (1993).
