History

1832 financial statements of the secondary school in Prussia were recognized as authorization to medium tracks. The average maturity was also called the Annual, because young men with this level of education instead of the normal three-year military service voluntarily served ( at Selbstkostentragung for accommodation, meals, uniforms, cold gun and riding horse units also ) only one year. One called this one-year volunteers, and the average maturity was called " scientific qualification for the one-year volunteer military service ."

In 1970, the terms Secondary school and middle maturity were largely used interchangeably. In high school, no middle maturity was purchased. High school students who do not pass the Abitur examination or left the school before, therefore did not have a college degree.

The German Education Council laid in 1970 with the Structure Plan for the education system before a long-term perspective for the entire West German education system. A new Conclusion It was intended for all secondary schools, junior high schools and high schools, which was similar to the previous average maturity. This should be called as a working title of " High School I". The " school leaving certificate " upon completion of the high school would therefore be the " High School II " has become.

But it was not long until this is implemented. So there were about 2002 in Thuringia, in contrast to most other states, at high schools no checks or automatic granting of the average maturity of Year 10. The prospects school is canceled, high school students was regarded as a motive for the perpetrator when shooting rampage in Erfurt. Only after a completion of Year 10 was introduced in all federal states in high schools. However, the actual implementation was different until today ( from a uniform examination for all school types up to an automatic conclusion of grant grammar schools ).

It also failed to provide education policy makers of the states to agree on a common name. Thus, from the earlier unified terms "average maturity" and " Secondary school " a bewildering array of seven different names (see overview at the beginning of this article).
