The Miyagi Stadium (Japanese宮城 スタジアム, Miyagi Sutajiamu ) is a multi-purpose stadium with facilities for athletics in the Japanese city Rifu.

History

It was built for the World Cup in 2002 and finished in March 2000. The design of the arena comes from the architect Hitoshi Abe. The construction costs amounted to € 269 million. Currently, it offers 49 133 square watching. The name of the stadium refers to the Miyagi Prefecture, in which the city is located Rifu.

The first major event in the arena, 2001 was the 56th National Sports Festival Japanese. The Japanese J-pop boy band SMAP gave the stadium concerts. During the 2002 World Cup here three matches were played.
