Moçâmedes Railway

The Namibebahn, formerly Linha de Moçâmedes, is a railroad in Angola. It runs from the coastal town of Namibe (formerly Moçâmedes ) to the east. 756 km it is the second longest railway in Angola. The line was completed in 1963 during the Portuguese colonial administration. It provides a transport connection is in the hinterland and serves as a transport route for the conveyed there natural resources, especially minerals.

The railway led to the place Menongue Serpa Pinto. Largest -route station is Lubango.

Large parts of the track were destroyed during the civil war. For several years, it is rebuilt by a Chinese company. The completion of the work was expected for the year 2011. In June 2010 it was announced that the reconstruction is in the hands of the Indian state-owned enterprise RITES. On 23 December 2010 the Angolan Transport Minister Augusto Silva Tomás, the official re- opening of the line for 2011 announced here.
