Mode of production

When production of a society ( sordnung ) is called Marxism in the way of the production of material goods, depending on the respective social development. The mode of production consists of the components productive forces and relations of production which enter into the historical course of a dialectical relationship. together they form the real material base of the socio - political and intellectual life of a social formation.

The mode of production is a central concept in the theory of history of Marxism, it is seen as being of key importance in the dynamic ( and revolutionary ) development of human societies. From the contradiction between the continuous development of the productive forces and the relations of production per existing arises in a dialectical process, a new production ratio and thus also a new mode of production.

Modes of production

Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels identify four modes of production, which in a materialist- dialectical process went through European societies so far:

  • Primitive society
  • Slave society
  • Feudal society
  • Civil society ( capitalism )

There are also other economic social formations such as the Asian mode of production described which is suitable for intra - Marxist debates of importance.
