Modesto Lafuente y Zamalloa
Modesto Lafuente y Zamalloa ( born October 25, 1806 Ravanal de los Caballeros, † 1866 in Madrid) was a Spanish historian.
Life
Lafuente was first professor and librarian in Astorga, moved in 1838 to Madrid and entered here as a journalist and satirical moralist with published under the pseudonyms Fray Gerundio and Tirabeque periodic works on:
- Coleccion de capilladas y disciplinarzos ( 16 volumes )
- Viage por Francia, Belgica Alemania y (2 volumes)
- Viage areostatico
- Teatro del siglo XIX social (2 volumes)
- Revista europea (4 volumes), all of which are published 1844-1850 and have been widely used.
However, his major work is the Historia general de España ( Madrid 1850-1866, 30 volumes; continued by Juan Valera, Barcelona 1877-82, 6 volumes).
Lafuente was most recently director of the Escuela Superior de diplomática and president of the Junta de los archivos y bibliotecas, also distinguished himself as a deputy and vice president of the Cortes by his eloquence from.
