Mohammad Reza Lotfi

Mohammad Reza Lotfi (Persian محمد رضا لطفى; * 1947 in Gorgan, Iran) is one of the most famous Tar and Setar player of Iranian classical music.

Life

By his oldest brother excited, he first learned to play the tar games. At the " Festival of young musicians ", he won the first prize in 1964. The following year he entered the Tehran Conservatory, which he attended for five years. His teachers there included the well-known master Ali Akbar Salehi Shahnazi and Habibullah.

In Abdollāh Davāmī and ʿ Alī Nūr - Borūmand he learned the repertoire ( radif ) of classical Persian music. At the same time he began the Setar game at Sa ʿ īd Hormozi to learn.

In 1973 he began studying at the Faculty of Music of the University of Tehran and worked together in this time with radio and television. Various concert tours have taken him to Italy, France and Germany. In 1986 he moved to the United States.

Mohammad Reza Lotfi worked throughout his career with a whole host of famous Iranian artist colleagues, among others, Mohammad Reza Šaǧariān, Šahram Nazeri, Hossein Alizadeh and Parviz Meškātiān. Noteworthy were his performances with the Iranian poet Hūšang Ebtehāǧ.

Today Mohammad Reza Lotfi moved back to Tehran, where he teaches music.
