Mokelumne River AVA

Mokelumne River AVA is a recognized since July 17, 2006 wine-growing region in the U.S. state of California. The area covers the administrative area of San Joaquin County. The protected designation of origin is a subzone of the parent Lodi AVA and is situated in the southwest of the region. The city of Lodi and the communities of Woodbridge and Acampo lie in the defined area of the vineyard. The American Viticultural Area was named after the Mokelumne River, which rises in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and flows into the San Joaquin River. Is drained from the vineyards of Mokelumne River and its tributary, the Cosumnes River. The soil consists of sandy and loamy alluvium. Adequate rainfall and the ability of the soil to retain the moisture here enable a wine-growing without irrigation.
