Molly Yard

Molly Yard ( born July 6, 1912 in Shanghai, China, † September 21, 2005 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA; native Mary Alexander Yard ) was a women's rights activist and 1987-1991 President of the National Organization for Women (NOW).

Life

Molly Yard was the daughter of Methodist missionaries in Shanghai and grew up in Chengdu. In the 1930s, she finished the Swarthmore College, a coeducational college.

In 1953 she moved to Pittsburgh and supported there in 1958 David L. Lawrence, and the presidential election of John F. Kennedy in 1960 and 1972 by George McGovern.

Yard in 1971 an active member of NOW and joined in 1978 the national NOW movement. Supported them the struggle for women's rights and donated for this purpose over a million dollars. In 1987 she was elected president of NOW, until she resigned in December 1991.
