Momik

Momik (Armenian Մոմիկ, also known as Momik Wardpet, Մոմիկ Վարդպետ, † 1333 in Noravank ) was in the 14th century an important Armenian architect, sculptor and book illustrator, designed the Gospels.

As an architect Momik designed the Mother of God church in Areni ( 1321 ), and the Mother of God Church in Noravank monastery, whose completion he did not live.

The sculptor Momik designed the sculptural decoration in Areni, probably the lower tympanum over the entrance on the west facade of the Gawits Noravank and several Chatschkare, which were often made ​​on behalf of the Armenian princely families.

In addition, he achieved fame through his manuscript painting. Only four of his many works have survived until today.
