Monaco-Ville

Monaco -Ville is the oldest and smallest city by population in the district ( district ) of Monaco. It has an area of 0.19 km ² (19 ha ) and a population of 1034 ( 2000 census ).

Monaco -Ville is historically a fortified old city, parts of the fixture are still visible today. By 1917, Monaco -Ville was a separate municipality ( commune) within the Principality and is now referred to as Old Town or by the locals as le Rocher. It lies on a rocky peninsula between the two ports of Monaco, Port de Monaco ( municipality of La Condamine ) in the north and Port de Fontvieille ( municipality Fontvieille ) in the southwest rises 60 meters from the Mediterranean.

In Monaco -Ville is among other things the Prince's Palace of the Grimaldi family. The municipality is therefore described by many sources as the capital of the principality. However, the separation between city and state is purely theoretical. Every day is before the palace at 11:55 clock the guard instead.

Furthermore, there is the world famous Oceanographic Museum, which was once headed by Jacques -Yves Cousteau and the Notre- Dame- Immaculée.
