Mondeville (Essonne)

Monde Ville is a commune with 687 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Essonne in the Ile- de -France region.

Geography

Mondeville located 8 kilometers south-west of Mennecy. It is one of 57 municipalities in the Regional Natural Park Gâtinais.

History

The village was mentioned as Munda villa or villa in Monte ( house on the hill ) for the first time in 980. It belonged to castellany of Corbeil -Essonnes. From 1451 until the French Revolution Mondeville belonged to the Cistercian convent of Port Royal des Champs.

After the Revolution it belonged until 1964 to the department of Seine -et- Oise. Until 1929 the church for Arrondissement Etampes, then to the old district Corbeil -Essonnes, which was dissolved in 1966 belonged. Since 1967 Mondeville heard again Arrondissement Etampes.

Culture and sights

The Flurkreuz of Mondeville called Croix Rouge is classified as a monument historique since 1969. It is owned by the community.

The church of Saint Martin dates from the 12th century. The roof and roof vaults were restored in 1850. It is entered in the additional list of Monuments historiques (historical monuments ).

In the mountains west of Mondeville there are climbing routes of difficulty levels 2b to 6b.

Economy

The main activities of the Mondevillois are agriculture and animal husbandry.
