Mennecy

Mennecy is a commune south of Paris with 13,344 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Essonne in the Ile- de -France region. It belongs to the district Evry and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the eponymous canton Mennecy. The inhabitants are called Menneçois.

Geography

Mennecy is located in the countryside of Hurepoix the river Essonne. In the north the municipality is limited by Lisses and Villabé, in the north- east by Ormoy, in the east and southeast by Le Coudray- Montceaux on the south by Chevannes, in the west and southwest by Fontenay- le -Vicomte and in the northwest by Écharcon.

Traffic

Mennecy is served by the RER D line.

History

Mennecy founded on the remains of the Gallo-Roman oppidum Minacium. Its importance is Mennecy but mainly through the establishment of the Porcelain Manufactory 1738-1745, although it is closed again in 1777.

With the founding of the city of Evry plan in the 1960s, the population increased in Mennecy considerably.
