Occhiobello

Occhiobello is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 11,635 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Rovigo in Veneto. The community is located about 23 kilometers southwest of Rovigo and about 10 kilometers northwest of Ferrara on the Po. Occhiobello is immediately adjacent to the province of Ferrara.

History

The community lies on the edge of the poles Sine, a marshy area that extends over the entire Po Delta to inland to Castelnuovo Bariano. The location close to the River Po has always been connected to the place with the threat of flooding. Moreover, the place is opposite of Ferrara and his Vorwerk Pontelagoscuro ( a district of Ferrara with today approximately 6,000 inhabitants ). Already, the influence of the reign of Ferrara in the Middle Ages can be explained.

Community partnership

Occhiobello maintains a partnership with the French community in the department of Essonne Mennecy and the City Renningen in Baden- Württemberg.

Traffic

Occhiobello is crossed by the Autostrada A13 from Bologna to Padua. A motorway junction is in the district of San Gaetano. On the railway line Bologna - Padua is the Occhiobellos station. Through the town shall also undertake the Strada Statale 16 Adriatica.
