Monopoly Tycoon

Monopoly Tycoon is an economic simulation by Deep Red Games, published in 2001 by Infogrames (now Atari ).

Game play

The player has a simulated city environment that is divided into several color-coded blocks, belonging to one color group either two, three or four blocks. Most of these blocks can be built with various shops and residential buildings, with the player on which transactions is through surveys in dwellings needs to find out needs. The city's inhabitants are assigned to different groups, set each different high value on short routes, quality of shops, prestige the environment, price of commodities and goods.

The sequence of each round is strictly regulated. The game always starts in 1930. A day lasts from 0:00 to 24:00 clock and after each day, the game switches to the next five years. Every ten years (ie every two match days) are new, more modern shops unlocked and outdated disabled. At 9.00 clock open those shops that have opened during the day. At 12:00 the bankruptcy examination takes place. If a player here on two consecutive days, a negative balance, he is bankrupt and must leave the game. At 17:00 clock close the daily activities and from 18:00 to 24:00 clock open the night shops. In each case the next day at 6:00 clock the daily receipts are posted to the account of the player and filled the warehouses of all transactions. For this, a different price to be paid depending on the type and number. One of the main points of this game is therefore to store the optimum possible number of goods and sell them at the best possible price. Half of the goods are not sold on the previous day will be destroyed at 6:00, which is why you should look for in the number and pricing of goods absolutely sure that as the complete inventory will be sold. A Round ( ie five years of playing ) takes five real minutes.

Once a day, at a random time obtained on request, an event card that brings money either, asking for payment of a penalty or fee or a special one-time action grants (eg the adjustment of the price of goods in a shop of a fellow player ). However, one can also sight unseen waive the acceptance of the event map.

Later in the game you have the opportunity to lease blocks for 25 game years by the city in auctions, which can be initiated by any player. If one possesses a lease for a block, they accounted for the player in question not only the Mietabgaben to the city, but you concede also rent from other players who have built on this block building. Furthermore, the building rights for the leased block are blocked after award of a lease agreement first. The tenant can activate it at any time and then has a long sole round the opportunity to build buildings there. After this round of the block may be re- built by each player. The tenant may, however, building another player at any time to buy a non-negotiable price, without requiring the consent of the player concerned is required. Furthermore, the tenants of a block can not build parking areas, increase the prestige of the respective area. If a player has leased all blocks of one color, he may build in these blocks hotels, which yield a very high profit.

There are a number of other, also divided into color groups blocks that can not be built (eg railway stations, telephone company, waterworks ). For these areas, the possession of a lease agreement is sufficient, there to have continuous income. Since changing the business over the years, different profit throw these blocks from depending on the game time. Electrical utility and telephone company, for example, bring in later years a substantial profit because there are few shops to begin play in 1930, making use of these technologies. The return of the stations is determined by the number of daily commuters in the city, which is in turn determined primarily by the number of existing hotels.

Implementation

In the first edition of the game, there were only several missions with predetermined opponents, who were to be completed in three selectable difficulty levels one by one and in addition to the existence in the economic simulation itself also a parent main objective to apply, approximately, in 2000 the richest player or after 30 years to be the most popular. The possibility of free play against the computer, here called " Rabatzmodus ", with selectable or no play goal and selectable opponents was added in a later version. Furthermore, the game can be played in multiplayer mode over a network, wherein a part of the opponent can be simulated on request from the computer.

Based on the board game Monopoly Monopoly Tycoon is only insofar as the names and colors of blocks apart from some supplements that are used the same name and color as in the " streets " on the Monopoly board and some events of the event cards are similar. Otherwise Monopoly Tycoon is not an implementation of the board game, but a real-time and without dice running economy simulation.

The game field is kept completely three-dimensional. The camera can not only in height and angle, but also freely pivoted in all directions. Despite the simulation of different times of the day and quite realistic implementation of lighting conditions, the Vector is a total non- photo realistic, the facades of the buildings and many objects are often indicated only symbolically.
