Montagny-lÃ¨s-Buxy

Montagny- lès- Buxy is a commune with 220 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Saône -et -Loire in Burgundy.

Geography

Montagny- lès- Buxy located in the southern part of the Côte Chalonnaise, about 38 kilometers south of Beaune and 16 km southwest of Chalon -sur -Saône at an altitude 245-415 m above sea level and is part of the department of Saône -et -Loire.

History

Already 885 the place was mentioned as Montanum as a function of the Church of Lyons. Later, the place belonged to the bishop of the chapter of Saint-Vincent de Chalon.

Viticulture in Montagny- lès- Buxy

Montagny is the southernmost point of the Côte Chalonnaise and is already on the border of Mâcon. Under the appellation Montagny wine from four communities is sold, namely Buxy, Saint- Vallerin, Jully -lès- Buxy and finally Montagny. The appellation applies only to white wines from the Chardonnay grape. The production area covers 476 ha, 276 ha of whom shall raise entitled to the designation " Premier Cru ". Only in the field of Montagny even individual layers must be named. A total of 17,165 hectoliters produced - In 2002, in an area of over 350 hectares - of which 220 ha Premier Cru.
