Montague (Prince Edward Island)

Montague is a city in Kings County in the Canadian province of Prince Edward Iceland.

Geography

Montague is located about 45 kilometers east of Charlottetown and 15 kilometers west of Georgetown, at the Prince Edward Iceland Route 4

History

The first inhabitants of the territory of the present-day city was the Paläoindianer and later the Mi'kmaqindianer. 1731 came the first French settlers of Cape Breton from the province of Nova Scotia in the area, and Jean -Pierre Roma called the location " Three Rivers ", which are now called Montague River, Brudenell River Cardigan River and because there three confluent rivers. In the 1820s came about 800 settlers, mainly from Scotland, in the " Three Rivers " area. A few years later a bridge was built over the rivers, the city continued to grow. The Montague River was named in honor of either George Brudenell, 4th Earl of Cardigan ( later George Montagu, 1st Duke of Montagu ), or John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich or Montague Wilmot appointed the first governor of Nova Scotia. Due to the idyllic location with the quiet river flowing through the city, the tree-lined streets and stately homes to Montague calls today like: " Montague The Beautiful ".

In 2006 there was a population of 1802 people. The mean age was 45.4 years at this time.
