Monte Civetta

The Civetta (Italian for owl) is a mountain in the Dolomites.

It is located east of the Cordevole, south of the Val Fiorentina and west of the Val di Zoldo. The 3220 m high mountain forms, together with some smaller peaks, the Civetta Moiazza group. This 6 km long group forms a high rock wall that slopes towards the west over 1000 m. It makes following the summit ( from north to south ): Monte Coldai ( 2396 m), Torre Coldai (2600 m), Torre d' Alleghe ( 2649 m), Torre di Valgrande ( 2715 m), Punta Civetta ( 2892 m), Monte Civetta ( 3220 m), Piccola Civetta ( 3207 m), Cime di Mede ( 2504 m), Torre Venezia ( 2337 m), Cima delle Busazze ( 2894 m) and Monte Moiazetta ( 2727 m).

The summit itself was climbed in the 1860s by the hunter Simeone De Silvestro first time. His route, the now common normal route ( Tivanweg ), leads from the Val di Zoldo via the SO- flank of the mountain. Another increase is partially secured Via ferrata degli Alleghesi that crosses the Ostpfeiler Punta Civetta and the north ridge of the Civetta main summit. Here also walking distances to be overcome again and again. The Via ferrata Attilio Tissi ( this is very rockfall endangered) and Via ferrata Costantini ( Moiazza ) are among the most demanding climbing routes in the Dolomites.

Mountain huts in the Civetta:

  • Rif. Coldai ( 2132 m; CAI) - to the north
  • Rif. Tissi ( 2262 m; CAI) - in scenic location at the foot of the Civetta - west wall
  • Rif. Vazzoler (1714 m; CAI) - fixed quarters in the south for popular climbing ( Torre Trieste, Torre Venezia)
  • Rif. Carestiato (1834 m; CAI) - located at the foot of Moiazza in the southeast
  • Rif. Torrani ( 2984 m; CAI) - directly under the main summit

An impressive mountain hike leads from the Val Zoldana ( Forcella Staulanza or Palafavera ) for Coldaihütte, from there past the Coldaisee to Tissihütte and Rif. Vazzoler; on the Rif. Carestiato you reach the Passo Duran. This path is also one of the most beautiful stretches of Dolomite amount route 1

The most important valley town of Alleghe is on its reservoir in Cordevole.
