Monte Grappa

The Montegrappa is 1742 ( according to other sources 1775) meters one of the highest mountains in the Alps Vizentiner. He is serving as an advanced massif between the rivers Brenta and Piave. South at its foot lies the town of Bassano del Grappa. From there, a well-developed highway 30 km to the summit.

At the summit, the fascists built in the 1930s overlooked a monumental memorial and ossuary for there during the First World War fallen. In the three Piaveschlachten came on Monte Grappa and the surrounding mountains of thousands of soldiers lost their lives. Located on the Montegrappa rest 12,615 Italian and 10,295 Austrian soldiers.

Among the paragliders of Monte Grappa is an ideal starting point for cross-country flying or just for long Abgleiter. The launch site at the summit is colloquially called ( because of the shape of the monument ) " Panettone ".

The Italian pen manufacturer Montegrappa has been named after the mountain.
