The Monte Maggiorasca is the highest mountain in the Ligurian Apennines, lies between the Province of Genoa and of the province of Parma, in the two regions of Liguria and Emilia -Romagna. He dominates the Val d' aveto (see also Nature Park aveto ) with the municipality of Santo Stefano d' aveto, Val Nure with the community Ferriere and the Valle del Ceno with the community Bedonia.

On one level ( 1,799 meters), near the summit, there is a statue of the Madonna of Guadalupe, which was built in 1947 there. On the top of Maggiorasca in 1,804 meters altitude, is a television transmitting mast.

The Monte Maggiorasca is the only mountain of the Ligurian Apennines, where the Chrysosplenium grows alternifolium ( a rare in Italy saxifrage plants). Other botanical specialties are the Aquilegia alpina ( a subendemische type of western Alps) and Primula marginata, grows isolated on basalt rocks.

On the slopes at high altitude plants of the rare species Aquilegia are bertolonii to find ( Endemicity in the Ligurian Alps and Provence and Apulia ), Soldanella alpina Pulsatilla alpina Draba and aizoides. The latter three are relatively common in the Alps, the Apennines, however, very rare. Finally, find the Armeria marginata and Arenaria bertolonii at Monte Maggiorasca its northwestern boundary propagation.

Among the most important tree species of Pinus mugo subsp counts. rostrata ( a subspecies of the mountain pine), which once dominated the slopes of the mountain range and now occur only in isolated groups near the Passo del Tomarlo and Lake Nero. Also in the northern area of ​​Maggiorasca there are some groups of trees of silver fir (Abies alba).
