Montecatini (company)

The Montecatini goes back to a pyrite mine in Montecatini Val di Cecina from 1888. After initial Kupfererzproduktion the company went over to the production of sulfuric acid from pyrite. After Guido Doneganu took over the management Montecatini went into the production of superphosphate fertilizer and grew to the biggest Italian chemical company. Together with the Rhone -Poulenc in 1928 was established for the production of cellulose acetate initially, and later nylon fibers, the Rhodiatoce. 1929, it increased with the Azienda Coloranti Nazionali e affinity ( ACNA ) in the color production. During Fascism Montecatini became the Italian IG Farben. 1954 succeeded Giulio Natta here the synthesis of the polypropylene. After the company got into trouble, it was taken over in 1966 by Montedison.
