Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve

Monteverde Biological Reserve ( Reserva Biológica Bosque nuboso Monteverde ) is a sanctuary in Costa Rica. There is an approximately 10,500 -acre area with mountain forests.

History

A large part of today's Reserve was originally purchased by a group of American Quakers, who had immigrated there in 1951. They wanted to settle here in order to avoid participation in the Korean War, as they reject according to their beliefs each military service.

Characteristics

The reserve is located on the slopes of a mountain range in the center of Costa Rica. It includes several different habitats. It is dominated by the cloud forest. The reserve offers among other things, the quetzal and the Dreilappenkotinga habitat. In addition, one can observe species such as the toucanet, the ivory Parakeet, violets Hummingbird and the Urutau - Tagschläfer here. The reserve is also located on a major railway line, which is why numerous species can be observed there at the time of bird migration that have their breeding grounds in North America. So you can see here, for example, the wide swing Buzzard, Vireos True and warblers. Located in the reserve are also tanagers and organist.
