Monthelie

Monthelie is a commune in the Côte-d'Or department in Burgundy with 158 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) and an area of 3.14 km ².

Geography

Monthelie located in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune, about seven kilometers from Beaune northwest of Meursault at an altitude 251-386 m above sea level and is part of the Côte-d'Or department. It lies on the southern slope of the valley Saint Romain, which separates the red areas of the white areas. Because of its wines Monthelie is very well known in the art.

Viticulture in Monthelie

The municipality with the same appellation in the neighborhood of Meursault has 120 hectares of land. Most of the production is red wine, produced almost exclusively from Pinot Noir, but with additions of Pinot Liébault and Pinot Gris. A small part of the red wine is also sold under the appellation Monthelie - Côte de Beaune. A small amount of white wine is pressed from Pinot Blanc Chardonnay with the addition of. On 30 hectares of vineyards various Premiers Crus are generated, of which Rondes be mentioned as the most important Cas Rougeot, Champs Fulliot, DURESSES, Meixner -Bataille, Sur la Velle, Taupine and Vignes.
