Montier-en-Der

Montier -en-Der is a commune with 2091 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haute -Marne, in the Champagne -Ardenne region; it belongs to the arrondissement of Saint- Dizier and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) in the eponymous canton of Montier -en-Der.

Geography

The community is located about 21.5 kilometers southwest of Saint- Dizier below the Lac du Der -Chantecoq. Through the town flows the river voire.

History

672 founded the Holy Bercharius ( 620-696 ), the Benedictine Abbey of Montier -en-Der.
