Montpelier is a city in Bear Lake County in the U.S. state of Idaho. In 2000, the city had 2785 inhabitants. It is the largest settlement in the Bear Lake Valley, an agricultural area north of Bear Lakes in southeastern Idaho along the border with Utah. The first settlers who settled in 1863, Mormons were on the Oregon Trail.

History

Like most places in the western United States, the name of Montpelier has changed several times.
