Montpollin

Montpollin was until 2013 an independent commune with 207 inhabitants ( as of 2009) in the department of Maine -et -Loire in the Pays de la Loire.

Since January 1, 2013 Montpollin is part of the newly created municipality of Baugé -en- Anjoun. By this date, the communities Montpollin, Baugé, Pontigné, Saint -Martin- Le Vieil - Baugé d'Arcé and were merged into one commune nouvelle. Montpollin forms after the merger a commune déléguée in this composite.

Geography

Montpollin is located in the countryside Baugeois on the wooded range of Pollin above a picturesque valley traversed by Verdun. 130 hectares are covered with forest, 290 ha are used for agriculture.

History

Montpollin was a domain of the Dukes of Anjou in the Middle Ages.

Culture and sights

The Church of St Eutropius dates from the 11th and 13th centuries. The northern side chapel belongs to the Ribouet de Sancé family whose on the eastern edge of the town of Montpollin, but lying on the boundary of the former municipality of Saint -Martin- d'Arcé castle is open to the public. In the churchyard is a precious stone cross from the 15th century.
