Montreuil-l'Argillé

Montreuil- l'Argillé is a commune with 805 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Eure in the Haute-Normandie region. It belongs to the arrondissement Bernay, in the canton of Broglie and the Local Government Association, the Communauté de communes du canton de Broglie ( CCCB ). The village lies in the valley of the river Guiel.

History

To 1032 Gilbert de Brionne unsuccessfully attempted to gain possession of Montreuil. The village was then not affected, the fighting took place outside. In 1138 Montreuil and the surrounding villages were attacked and set on fire. It is not known whether the castle of Giroie ( Géré ) family also burned. The Hundred Years' War (1337-1453) the town was mentioned several times in historical chronicles. 1681 was the castle in ruins.

In the German - French War (1870-1871) the population of Montreuil- l'Argillé armed until January, 1871. Previously, the community had, like many other rural communities in the region, does not defend against the German invaders who, therefore, plunder unhindered could.
