Mookie Salaam

Rakieem " Mookie " Salaam ( born April 5, 1990 in Edmond, Oklahoma) is an American sprinter.

Life

He grew up with six siblings with his foster parents, Kevin and Lisa Peterson. Even in his time at the Edmond North High School, he stood out as talent and entered in the disciplines 100 meter ( 10.68 seconds ), 200 meters ( 21.39 seconds ), relay competition and also in the long jump. In college, he was able to improve on and so ran 2009 10.40 s in the 100 meters and 20.87 over 200 meters. In 2011 he tried his hand in the hall and over 400 meters and ran 47.64 s doing, but his focus remained on the two shorter distances. In the NCAA Track and Field Championships, he ran 9.97 s, making it the 79th sprinter who could run under 10 seconds.

He left in 2011, the University of Oklahoma, after he had signed a contract with Adidas to train as a professional athlete for the Olympic Trials.

On 21 May 2012, he graduated in Doha his first Diamond League race. He started on the 200-meter distance, but had to stop halfway through the track as he was injured. As a result of problems with the rear thigh muscles he had to cancel the Olympic Trials.
